Trained service dogs are not accepted for travel to/from Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).
Acceptance policies for trained service dogs vary by destination. You're responsible for researching and complying with the animal travel and acceptance laws, requirements, and/or procedures for each location on your itinerary. Your animal may be refused transportation if you do not comply.
As required by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all dogs, including service dogs, arriving in the U.S. from international destinations must:
- Appear healthy
- Be at least six months old
- Be microchipped
- Be accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt
Additional documentation requirements apply to dogs coming from countries that are considered high-risk for dog rabies. Please visit the CDC's website for complete information.
New World Screwworm
Travel to the United States:
Customers traveling from countries the CDC and/or USDA determine to be affected by New World Screwworm (NWS) must present a certificate signed by a full-time salaried veterinary official (official government veterinarian) in the country of departure stating that the dog:
- Has been inspected for screwworm within 5 days of travel to the United States and
- Is either free from NWS or
- Was infested with NWS, held in quarantine, and treated until free from NWS before leaving the country.
For dogs traveling to the United States from Mexico, the NWS certificate may be issued by a clinical veterinarian trained and authorized to sign on behalf of the official government veterinarian.
Dogs that do not meet these requirements will not be permitted to travel to the United States.
Travel to Mexico:
Customers traveling to Mexico with a trained service dog will need a New World Screwworm (NWS) Inspection Certificate completed by a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-accredited veterinarian. The certificate must be issued within 5 days before entering Mexico and will be verified at the airport during check-in. For more information, visit the USDA website.
Exception: a New World Screwworm (NWS) Inspection Certificate is not required for dogs of Mexican origin arriving to Mexico from the United States.
- Dogs are of Mexican origin if they reside permanently or for most of the time in Mexico.
- Dog owners must present documentation proving the dog's Mexican origin, such as a vaccination record or veterinary treatment records issued in Mexico.
