- You can indicate that you’ll be checking bags and pay (as applicable) standard checked bag fees during or after online check-in via:
- Southwest.com
- Southwest app
- The following forms of payment are accepted when checking bags online:
- Credit cards
- PayPal
- Apple Pay
- To change the number of checked bags:
- If you paid a bag fee online and want to reduce the number of bags you’re checking, you must contact us or speak to a Customer Service Agent at the airport.
- If you checked a bag(s) and were eligible to do so for free or paid a bag fee online and want to add a bag(s), you can make changes by visiting Manage Reservations and selecting Modify Checked Bags.
- At the airport:
- Print your baggage tags at a kiosk (where available) or the ticket counter.
- Attach the tags to your bags.
- Proceed to the bag drop-off line with your ID ready.

Bags cannot be checked during booking. You can check bags digitally after you check in for your flight beginning 24 hours prior to departure and up to 60 minutes before a domestic flight and 90 minutes before an international flight
Any overweight or oversize bag fees must be paid at the airport. - If you're traveling on a partner itinerary, you may not be able to check bags online for your Southwest-operated flight.
- If you are traveling on a Group reservation, you will not be able to check your bags online.
- Some Southwest Business reservations may not be eligible to check bags online.
