Identification Requirements for Travel

REAL ID required

All passengers 18 years and older must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, a state-issued Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL), or another acceptable form of identification when flying within the United States.
Passengers who do not present an acceptable form of ID at TSA checkpoints may verify their ID using TSA ConfirmID, TSA’s modernized alternative identity verification option.
TSA ConfirmID is an optional, fee-based service designed to enhance security and streamline identity verification for air travelers with a lost ID, or without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of TSA-acceptable ID. If you choose not to purchase TSA Confirm ID and don't have a TSA-acceptable ID, you may not be allowed through security and may miss your flight.

ID requirements by age

Adults (18+) must show valid identification to travel.
Passengers 17 and younger traveling domestically do not need ID unless traveling as an Unaccompanied Minor or lap child.

International travel requirements

All Passengers, regardless of age, must have the proper documentation required for entry into and exit from each country on their itinerary.
Passport cards and invalid or damaged passports will not be accepted.
Some countries require additional documentation for children.
Passengers are responsible for obtaining and completing all documentation required for entry into and exit from each country, as well as for complying with the applicable laws, requirements, or procedures of each country listed on such itinerary
We recommend that Customers contact the embassy, consulate, or other governmental authority of each country well in advance to verify the applicable requirements.

If I have different names on different IDs, which information should I provide?

The name you provide when booking a flight should match the name on the government ID you will use during travel.
Minor differences (e.g., middle initial vs. full middle name, abbreviated names due to character limits) may be acceptable, but you should always verify that the name on your ID matches your reservation.
The TSA recommends ensuring that the name on your driver’s license matches the name on your passport.
