Depending on the fare you purchased, you may be able to make a change to your reservation to secure a lower fare.

Fare types and changes

• Basic fares cannot be changed.
• To modify a Basic fare, you must upgrade to Choice, Choice Preferred, or Choice Extra.
• Alternatively, you may cancel and rebook. Keep in mind that flight credit associated with Basic fares expires six months from the date you originally booked the reservation. Additionally, a new reservation will take on the earliest expiration date of any funds applied. If no funds remain on the ticket at the time you cancel, no flight credit will be issued.
• Choice, Choice Preferred, and Choice Extra fares can be changed freely, though fare differences may apply.

Southwest^® does not charge change fees.

• If your new flight costs less than what you purchased:
• Refundable fares: the difference can be refunded to your original payment method or held for future use as a Transferable Flight Credit™.
• Non-refundable fares: the difference is issued as a flight credit or Transferable Flight Credit™ (depending on the fare purchased).
• Flight credits and Transferable Flight Credits™ have a specified expiration date. All travel must be completed by the expiration date.
• For reward travel: If your reservation change decreases the fare, any difference in Rapid Rewards^® points will be returned to the original account.
