Pets:
- Must never occupy a passenger seat
- May not be located in an exit row or the first row (bulkhead)
- Must be secured (including head and tail) in the pet carrier at all times while in the gate area and during boarding/deplaning and for the entire duration of the flight.
- Carriers must be stowed under the seat in front of you while onboard.
Failure to follow these requirements may result in denial of transportation of the pet onboard Southwest Airlines®.
We recommend using a soft-sided carrier, as under-seat space can vary depending on your seat type and location on the aircraft. Space for pet carriers may be more limited in certain seat types, including aisle seats.
Pets must remain under the control of the handler at all times. A pet that shows disruptive behavior may be denied boarding. Examples of disruptive behavior include (but are not limited to):
- Scratching, excessive whining or barking
- Growling, biting, jumping, lunging
- Urinating or defecating in the cabin or gate area
