A vacation travel credit (VTC) is issued when a Getaways by Southwest™ booking:
- is changed and the new price is lower, or
- is canceled more than 24 hours after purchase and up to 10 minutes before the first flight’s original scheduled departure time (minus any supplier penalties, insurance, or optional travel charges).
When issued, VTCs are split as evenly as possible among all Passengers included on the reservation when it was initially booked (including lap children).
Transfer rules
- VTCs can be transferred once between Rapid Rewards® Members.
- The full amount transfers.
- Transfers cannot be reversed and cannot happen a second time.
Expiration
- VTC expiration dates depend on the form(s) of payment used. VTCs expire either 18 months from the original booking date or adopt the earliest expiration date of any VTCs used to make the Getaways by SouthwestTM booking.
- All travel must be completed by the specified expiration date.
Using VTCs
- VTCs can be used for:
- A new Getaways by Southwest™ booking (excluding optional travel charges).
- Modifications to an existing booking (excluding optional travel charges).
- All travel must be completed by the VTC’s expiration date.
- When booking, you’ll see an option to apply a VTC on the payment screen by entering its confirmation number.
- You can use up to eight VTCs per vacation package.
- The person linked to the VTC must be one of the Passengers on the reservation.
- If multiple Passengers or VTCs are involved, VTCs will be applied across all Passengers.
Important notes
- If you cancel a package paid with a VTC:
- A new VTC will be issued and split as evenly as possible among all Passengers included on the reservation when it was initially booked.
- If you are eligible to receive a refund to the original form(s) of payment and a VTC was used, the amount paid with a VTC will be issued as a new VTC back to the person associated with the VTC.
- VTCs cannot be used for air-only bookings on Southwest Airlines®.
- If your flight was significantly disrupted and you cancel and choose to receive a VTC for the non-air components, it will expire 18 months from the original booking date. All travel must be completed by then.
- Review details about VTCs in the Getaways by Southwest™ Terms & Conditions.
