Review our policy for Customers of size including information about the importance of booking an extra seat in advance.
Follow the online booking instructions below for proactively purchasing an additional seat on Southwest.com®. Customers traveling on a partner itinerary must contact the partner carrier to complete the additional seat purchase. Customers traveling on a Getaways by Southwest™ vacation booking must contact Getaways by Southwest to complete the additional seat purchase.
Select your city pair(s) and travel date(s).
- In the "Passengers" field, indicate the total number of seats needed by selecting that number of adults. For example, if one Customer requires two seats and is traveling with one other adult in their party, select "3 Adults."
- Proceed through the "Select Flight" and "Trip & Price Details" pages.
- Complete the name fields for a Customer who requires an additional seat as follows:
- When booking without a middle name: A Passenger named Tom Smith would designate Passenger One as "Tom Smith," and Passenger Two as "Tom XS Smith" (first name Tom, middle name XS, and last name Smith).
- When booking with a middle name: A Passenger named Tom James Smith would designate Passenger One as "Tom James Smith," and Passenger Two as "Tom James XS Smith" (first name Tom, middle name James XS, and last name Smith).
Important:
- The extra seat must be the second Passenger and not the first.
- Do not add XS in the first name field.
- If you’re booking with a middle name:
-
- Do not forget to include the middle name in the Passenger name for the extra seat.
- Do not add XS before the middle name.
- Do not add XS without a space between the middle and last names.
Customers may not purchase more than one seat for the sole purpose of keeping the seat next to the Customer empty.
